After undergoing lower back surgery, the plaintiff was found unconscious in their bathroom the next day with severe abdominal pain. They were rushed to the emergency department where they were diagnosed with possible mesenteric ischemia, a life-threatening condition. Almost 30 hours after their arrival in the emergency department, the plaintiff's blood pressure plummeted. They were rushed to the operating room where they discovered mesenteric ischemia with nearly six feet of dead bowel.
Challenge
The defense argued that this type of mesenteric ischemia, non-occlusive mesenteric ischemia, was hard to diagnose and treat. They also stated that regardless if the client would have had the operation 30 hours before, they still would have lost 5 feet 4 inches of their intestines. The defense relentlessly argued that the doctor followed the standard of care. Brian McCallister needed a visual presentation to educate the jury on the abdominal anatomy, mesenteric ischemia, and the sequence of events that led to his client's devastating injuries.

Approach
Our team created a visual presentation packaged in PowerPoint, including the following:

Result
The the graphics, illustrations, and colorized images of the films helped the jury understand what they were looking at. We were able to differentiate the anatomy of the intestines and see precisely what we were aiming to show the jury. They were very helpful when teaching the jury about the intestines and where certain organs are located in our bodies as well as their basic functions. The result was a $8.2 million verdict.
Custom charts were created to demonstrate systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
