A Lighting Technician went to the roof of a strip mall for repairs and was suddenly struck by the defective hatch door, leading to injuries to his neck, shoulders, right upper extremity, and mid and low back. The property management and owner knew about the defective latch mechanism in the hatch door, but didn’t address the issue. That’s when Daniel K. Kramer and Teresa Johnson came to MediVisuals + High Impact to create a timeline of treatments to show how the man’s quality of life was greatly impacted by the incident, which resulted in a $12.6 million jury verdict.
Challenge
Despite the Defendants knowing about the faulty hatch door, they still disputed liability for the damages the technician sustained. Additionally, the Defense attempted to downplay the extent of the man’s injuries. Because of the severity of the damages, the man had to go through numerous surgeries and treatments, which caused a financial burden.

Our team of visual strategists and designers created a timeline that summarized the treatments and surgeries the Plaintiff had to go through in a clear, concise visual that any non-expert could understand. Our objective with the timeline was to:

Compare the quantity and extent of medications and surgeries throughout the Plaintiff’s healing process.

Show the length of time the Plaintiff suffered as a result of the Defendants’ negligence.

Illustrate the juxtaposition of the man’s medical history before and after the incident to evoke empathy from the jury.
Result
With the attorneys’ expert argument and our effective timeline design, the result was a $12.6 million verdict in favor of the Plaintiff. This allowed the man to pay off his medical bills and be compensated for his lost earnings because of the incident.
