It can be difficult to showcase a defective internal mechanical component. That’s why when a man was killed due to a broken cab latch, Chandler Gregg and Nick Smart of Strong-Garner-Bauer P.C. came to MediVisuals + High Impact for a clear and powerful forensic animation of what went wrong, resulting in a successful $13M verdict.
Challenge
Due to a defective hold-open latch, the cab of a skid-steer fell on a man resulting in his death. The Defense heavily disputed the product liability (disputing both defect and causation), and claimed that the Plaintiff’s injuries indicated that he had never fully opened the cab and thus the alleged defective part was not in play in order to cause the incident.
One of the biggest challenges in this case was clearly communicating to the jury how the cab latch system was supposed to work correctly.

Approach
Using accurate mechanical scans of a real skid-steer, our talented team of forensic animators created a visual that:

Clearly showed how the latch system was supposed to work if it hadn’t been defective.

Illustrated that due to the defective latch, the cab could easily cause injury and death.

Communicated the hidden danger of the faulty mechanism clearly, leaving little room for argument.

Result
The animations we created of the broken latch along with detailed functionality of the cab mechanism helped tell a clear story of how the circumstances of the incident occurred. In turn, Mr. Gregg and Mr. Smart reached a successful $13M verdict in court.
