A 76-year-old man was struck by a work van that ran a red light, resulting in severe injuries and a traumatic brain injury. He was left bedridden and reliant on others for care, eventually passing away from his injuries. The family sought damages from the corporation, alleging gross negligence.
Challenge
Initially after the crash, the man spent 6-days in a medically induced coma and two weeks in the hospital, followed by two years of expensive rehab and therapy before his death. When the defense was presented with the demand letter, they argued that the damages requested by the plaintiff were unreasonable. Rojas had to counter that claim by explaining to the jury the pain and suffering the man endured, along with the considerable cost of his treatment. This is when Rojas came to MediVisuals + High Impact to create a visual strategy that would help the plaintiff’s counsel and their experts detail the medical facts of their case.

Approach
Our medical illustrators collected the deceased man’s scans, films, and other medical evidence to create a summary of injuries presentation, medical illustrations, and a treatment timeline to support Rojas’ argument that would:

Detail every injury the deceased sustained and the following treatments he went through to remedy the damages.

Allow his experts to educate the jury about the breadth of the deceased’s brain injury and how it led to him being bedridden.

Consolidate all the damages into a clean visual that would not deluge the jury with medical information, making it easier for them to understand and retain.

With the help of our legal graphics, Rojas successfully returned a $18.97M verdict for the family – with $477,500 for medical expenses, $7 million for the value of his life, and $11.5 million for his suffering.
