When a man was injured due to an improperly mounted ceiling ladder, Austin Mathis of The Mathis Law Firm needed to illustrate the negligent installation and resulting injuries suffered by his client. Our visuals helped them reach a settlement of over 20x the defense’s largest offer.
Challenge
A ceiling ladder (to allow for attic access) was improperly installed by a home builder. They not only used the wrong type of screws, but they also used the incorrect quantity. The installation guide clearly stated the correct safety procedures for mounting the ladder which was plainly ignored by the Defendant.
This negligence led to a screw breaking from the weight of the Plaintiff on the ladder, causing a shoulder injury that required surgery.
Mr. Mathis needed a clear visual representation of the improper installation along with the resulting injuries that his client suffered.

Approach

Compared the difference in types of screws, including the recommended screws and the incorrect screws that were used in this case.

Showed the number of locations in which the proper instructions for installation were displayed, including warnings, and how they were ultimately disregarded.

Emphasized the importance of using the correct amount of screws required for a safe installation in contrast with the few amount of screws that were actually used.

Illustrated the injuries and surgeries suffered by the Plaintiff as a result of these oversights, driving home the full scope of damages.
