A 14-year-old girl was struck by a student driver while crossing a crosswalk at her high school. The driver was not paying attention and speeding. The collision resulted in permanent and catastrophic brain injuries for the girl, requiring lifelong medical care.
Challenge
Experts from both sides agree that the client will require 'around-the-clock' medical care for the rest of her life. However, the opposing party argued that the client was more than 49.9% at-fault, such that any recovery would be barred. Both sides hired collision reconstruction and human factors experts, who created competing reconstruction animations.

Approach
As a result of the severe injuries from the collision, the plaintiff underwent two emergency, life-saving brain surgeries. The attorneys at Butler | Kahn tasked MediVisuals + High Impact with creating demonstrative exhibits to detail the extent of the brain injuries and surgical procedures. Our illustration and animation team created the following:

Result
The attorneys at Butler | Kahn took a for-trial deposition of their client's brain surgeon who walked the jury through the injuries and surgeries using the animations. With the help of the legal exhibits, the attorneys were able to successfully settle the case for $30,100,000.
